Steve Perry is a highly acclaimed American novelist, best known for his works in the fantasy and science fiction genres. He is also a popular television writer, with credits in several well-known TV shows. Perry was born on August 31, 1947, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but spent his formative years in various places such as California, Oregon, Louisiana, and Washington. Before becoming a full-time writer, he held a variety of jobs, including working as a clerk, swimming instructor, aluminum salesman, private detective, lifeguard, martial arts instructor, nurse, and toy assembler.
Perry has written over fifty novels and numerous short stories, which have been featured in various magazines and anthologies. He is perhaps best known for the Matador series and has written books in the Star Wars, Alien, and Conan universes. His contribution to the Tom Clancy's Net Force series was significant, as he collaborated on all of the books in the series, seven of which became New York Times Bestsellers. Two of his novelizations, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Men in Black, were also bestsellers.
In addition to his work in print, Perry has written articles, reviews, and essays, animated teleplays, and some unproduced movie scripts. He has received recognition for his writing, including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing for his work on Batman: The Animated Series. Perry is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, The Animation Guild, and the Writers Guild of America, West.
