Steven A. McKay

Steven A. McKay is a Scottish historical fiction author best known for his Forest Lord series, which includes four novels and several spin-off stories. Inspired by spotting a house named "Sherwood," he crafted these tales set in medieval England. His bibliography expanded with the Warrior Druid of Britain Chronicles and a trilogy centered on Alfred the Great, beginning with "The Heathen Horde" in 2023. McKay also contributed writing to the 2021 Xbox game HOOD: Outlaws and Legends.

Born in 1977 near Glasgow, McKay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and pursued novel writing as a lifelong ambition. His works blend meticulous historical research with dynamic storytelling, often accompanied by his signature soundtrack of extreme metal music during the writing process. Beyond literature, McKay co-hosts the Rock, Paper, Swords! podcast with fellow author Matthew Harffy, interviewing prominent figures like Diana Gabaldon and Bernard Cornwell. A former heavy metal musician, he composed the podcast's theme song using guitars from his home studio.
