Steven Decker is a best-selling science fiction author, particularly known for his Time Chain series and the novel Child of Another Kind. His passion for writing began in the fifth grade, when he threw a spitball at a classmate. Instead of punishing him, his teacher, Mrs. Brewer, gave him a book of poetry and instructed him to memorize and recite "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. This experience sparked Decker's love for reading, writing, and storytelling.
As an eighth grader, Decker read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy for pleasure, and as a student at the University of Virginia, he was excited to write a thesis as the culmination of his undergraduate studies. While traveling the world for work, Decker continued to write, and his experiences abroad have greatly influenced his novels. When writing his first novel, Decker lived in Appalachia and studied the art of storytelling. He now edits his books by reading them aloud, as he believes that novels should sound like stories. Decker's goal as a novelist is to create special and even spectacular worlds that inspire readers to escape their everyday lives.
Decker currently resides in a small town in Connecticut, where he spends his days writing fiction and taking long walks in the countryside with his two dogs, Jenny and Wilson. He is dedicated to crafting good stories and finding success in the quiet town that he calls home.
