Steven Gould is an acclaimed American author, best known for his works in the young adult, fantasy, and science fiction genres. He is particularly famous for the "Jumper" series of novels, which includes the books Jumper and Impulse, among others. These novels have gained significant attention as they were adapted into a major motion picture and a streaming television series, respectively.
Gould was born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and spent his childhood moving around due to his father's career in the Army. One of his most memorable experiences as a teenager was living in Hawaii, where he became a proficient scuba diver. After completing high school, he attended Texas A&M University, which is why many of his works are set in the state. Gould's passion for writing was ignited during his time at the university, where he attended several writing conventions, including Aggiecon, his first-ever science fiction convention.
Steven Gould's writing often features protagonists fighting to rid government of corrupt antagonists, with the struggle against corruption taking center stage over technology. His notable works include Jumper, Wildside, Helm, Blind Waves, Reflex, Jumper: Griffin's Story, 7th Sigma, Impulse, and Exo. Gould has also worked with James Cameron and other notable figures on the next Avatar movies, for which he will write books. He served as president of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America from July 2013 to June 2015. Gould currently resides in New Mexico with his wife, writer Laura J. Mixon, and their two daughters. He spends his time studying and teaching Aikido and Iaido.
