Stuart MacBride is a highly regarded Scottish novelist, best known for his crime thriller novels which are primarily set in the city of Aberdeen. Many of his works feature the main character, Detective Sergeant Logan McRae. Although MacBride has written some standalone novels, it is his Logan McRae series that has garnered him significant attention and praise.
MacBride was born in Dumbarton, Scotland, but was raised in Aberdeen from a young age. His upbringing in this city has greatly influenced his writing, providing him with a deep understanding of the location and its people. This understanding is evident in his vivid and authentic depictions of Aberdeen in his novels.
Before becoming a successful author, MacBride had a diverse range of careers, including working offshore, graphic design, web design, and IT/computer programming. These varied experiences have no doubt contributed to his rich and multifaceted storytelling. MacBride's publishing deal was secured with the writing of his novel 'Halfhead', but it was his work 'Cold Granite', featuring DS Logan McRae, that truly captured the attention of publishers. This led to a three-book deal, which was further extended to six books. In 2009, he signed another deal, allowing him to write two more Logan books and two standalone novels.
In addition to his writing, MacBride is known for his passion for potato growing. However, he has described his vegetable patch as being full of weeds, suggesting that his gardening skills may not quite match his literary talents. MacBride currently resides in north-east Scotland with his wife, Fiona, and their cat, Grendel.
