Stuart Pawson

Stuart Pawson is a British author, renowned for his mystery novels. He was born in Yorkshire, England, where he continues to reside with his wife, Doreen. Pawson is best known for his series character, Detective Inspector Charlie Priest, which features in thirteen novels. The author's background in mining electrical engineering and his part-time work for the probation service provided him with a unique insight into the criminal justice system, which he has successfully utilized in his writing.

Before becoming a full-time author, Pawson worked as an electrical engineer in a coal mine and spent five years working part-time for the probation service. This experience allowed him to gain knowledge about the criminal justice system, which he later used to write his first book, The Picasso Scam. Pawson is a member of the Crime Writer's Association and the Murder Squad, which are prestigious organizations for crime writers in the UK.

Pawson has a strong affinity towards the American West, and he believes that he must have some cowboy genes in his body. He first visited the United States of America to work for a month at a Wyoming coal mine and has since then visited America on numerous holiday vacations. Pawson is also interested in songwriting, although he admits to being tone-deaf. He managed to combine his two interests - songwriting and the West - in the opening chapters of his novel, Laughing Boy. When not writing novels, he enjoys giving motivational speeches to various library groups.
