Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen

Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen is an award-winning children's book author known for her engaging picture books and nonfiction works. Her notable titles include "Duck Duck Moose," "Chicks Run Wild," "Pirate Princess," and "Hampire!," as well as the forthcoming "Orangutangled." With a distinctive voice that blends humor, wordplay, and relatable themes, her books often feature animal characters and whimsical storytelling. She has published 18 nonfiction books for children, covering topics ranging from science fair projects to biographies of notable figures like Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Jane Goodall.

Originally trained in biology, Bardhan-Quallen earned a BS from the California Institute of Technology and initially pursued a PhD in developmental biology before transitioning to writing. Parenthood inspired her to explore storytelling, leading to her first published work in "Highlights for Children" in 2003. Her debut picture book, "Tightrope Poppy, the High-Wire Pig," was released in 2006, followed by other successful titles such as "The Mine-o-saur" and "The Hog Prince." Her writing often draws from her experiences as a mother, with her children serving as muses for many of her stories.

She resides outside Philadelphia with her family and maintains a playful connection to her craft, once quipping, "Every book is an autobiography."
