She grew up in Milwaukee and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin. Burke has been working as a professional writer for over fifty years, with a focus on journalism, both as a reporter and editor.\n \n Burke has a passion for language and is fluent in Spanish, which led her to become a certified translator, specializing in translating from Spanish to English. She has also become well-acquainted with the science fiction community in Spain and has translated many works by Spanish authors. In 2016, Burke won the Alicia Gordon Award for Word Artistry in Translation from the American Translators Association.
In addition to her work as a translator, Burke is an accomplished writer of poetry, essays, and fiction, with a particular interest in science fiction.
