Susan Abulhawa is a highly accomplished author, poet, essayist, scientist, and human and animal rights activist. She was born to refugees of the 1967 war, which saw Israel capture what remained of Palestine, including Jerusalem. Abulhawa currently resides in Pennsylvania with her daughter.\n \n Abulhawa is the founder and President of Playgrounds for Palestine, a children's organization dedicated to upholding The Right to Play for Palestinian children. Her debut novel, "Mornings in Jenin," was an international bestseller, translated into 30 languages, and is considered a classic in Palestinian literature. Her latest novel, "Against the Loveless World," was released on August 25, 2020, and received critical acclaim.
In addition to her novels, Abulhawa has published poetry, essays, and anthologies. Her second novel, "The Blue Between Sky and Water," was also a bestseller, translated into 20 languages. Her books have garnered a large readership, making her one of the most widely read Arab authors in the world. Abulhawa is also the Executive Director of the 'Palestine Writes Literature Festival.'
Abulhawa's commitment to activism extends beyond her work as an author and poet. In 2001, she founded Playgrounds for Palestine, an international children's NGO that works to uphold The Right to Play for Palestinian children. Her work in literature and activism has made her a prominent and influential voice in Palestinian culture and politics.
