Susan Isaacs is an accomplished American author, known for her works of women's fiction, as well as her contributions to mystery and espionage novels. Isaacs was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended Queens College where she majored in English. After graduating, she stumbled into a writing career through a job at Seventeen magazine, after initially failing an aptitude test for computer programming.
Isaacs' writing career began in earnest as she started writing political speeches in her spare time. She then began writing mysteries, inspired by her love for the genre. Her first novel, Compromising Positions, became a bestseller, and she has since published numerous novels, many of which have become New York Times bestsellers. In addition to her fiction works, Isaacs has written one work of nonfiction and has contributed to various magazines and newspapers with articles, essays, and op-ed pieces.
Isaacs has received several awards for her writing, including the Writers for Writers Award and the John Steinbeck Award. She has also served as the chairman of the board of Poets & Writers and was a former president of Mystery Writers of America. She is a member of several literary organizations, including the National Book Critics Circle, PEN, and the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
In addition to her writing career, Isaacs has also worked as a screenwriter and essayist. She wrote the screenplay for Paramount's Compromising Positions and co-produced Touchstone's Hello Again. She has also written for various publications, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and Newsday. Isaacs is an active member of her community and supports various organizations, including the Queens College Foundation, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Association. She is an advocate for free speech and free expression and has been involved in several anti-censorship campaigns. Isaacs lives on Long Island with her husband.
