Susan Orlean

Susan Orlean is an accomplished American journalist and author, best known for her works "The Orchid Thief" and "The Library Book." Orlean was born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. She had a happy and uneventful childhood that was followed by four years of studying at the University of Michigan. Her passion for storytelling and sentence-making led her to pursue a career in writing, even though she had no experience or credentials at the time.

After moving to the West Coast, Orlean settled in Portland, Oregon, where she managed to secure a job as a writer. She later moved to Boston and wrote for the Phoenix and the Globe before eventually making her way to New York. In 1987, Orlean published her first piece in The New Yorker, and she has been a staff writer there since 1992. Over the years, Orlean has established herself as a prominent figure in the literary world, publishing a total of seven books, including "Rin Tin Tin" and "Saturday Night."
