Susan P. Baker is a retired Texas family court judge who has had a distinguished career in the legal field. She began her career as a family and criminal attorney and later became a probation officer. After that, she served as a Texas District Court judge for twelve years, followed by another twelve years as a visiting judge traveling around Texas. Before being elected to the bench, she practiced law for nine years and worked as a probation officer for two years.
Baker's experiences in the justice system have inspired her to write novels of mystery and suspense set in Texas. She has authored eleven novels, two nonfiction books, and an eclectic collection of short pieces. Her novels include five featuring Mavis Davis, a private detective, two Lady Lawyer mysteries starring criminal defense lawyers Sandra Salinsky and Erma Townley, and four standalones with court participant protagonists. Her nonfiction books are "Murdered Judges of the 20th Century" and "Heart of Divorce—Advice from a Judge." Baker's collection of short pieces is titled "Fly Catching." She is a member of several professional organizations, including All Author, Alliance of Independent Authors, Sisters in Crime, Authors Guild, Writers League of Texas, Texas Authors, and Galveston Novel and Short Story Writers.
