Susan Richards Shreve is an accomplished American author, born in Toledo, Ohio on May 2, 1939. She is well known for her novels, including "More News Tomorrow," "Under Watson's Porch," and "The Flunking of Joshua T. Bates." In addition to her work for adult audiences, Shreve has made significant contributions to children's literature, having written numerous children's books.
Throughout her career, Shreve has received numerous awards and accolades for her work. These include the Jenny Moore Award from George Washington University in 1978, a Notable Book citation from the American Library Association (ALA) in 1979 for "Family Secrets: Five Very Important Stories," and a Best Book for Young Adults citation from the ALA in 1980 for "The Masquerade." She has also been recognized by the National Council for Social Studies and the Children's Book Council joint committee for her work, and has received a Guggenheim award in fiction, a National Endowment for the Arts fiction award, and an Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America. Shreve has also been the recipient of Woodrow Wilson fellowships and a Lila Wallace Readers Digest Foundation grant.
In addition to her work as an author, Shreve is also a professor and has made significant contributions to the literary community. She founded the MFA degree at George Mason University, where she is a professor of English and present co-chairman of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation. She has also taught at Columbia School of the Arts and Princeton University for the MFA programs. Shreve's numerous accolades include the Guggenheim Award for Fiction, the Grub Street Prize for nonfiction, and the Service Award from Poets & Writers. She lives and writes in Washington, DC.
