Suzanne Collins is a successful American author, best known for her work in children and young adult books. She was born on August 10, 1962, in the United States, and spent her childhood moving around with her family due to her father's career in the U.S. Air Force. Collins attended Carver High School and pursued a Theater Arts major at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She later graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Telecommunications.
Collins' career as a writer began in 1991 when she started working for children's television shows. She has contributed to the scripts of many well-known Nickelodeon shows, including Clarissa Explains It All, Little Bear, and Oswald. Collins also worked as the head writer for Clifford's Puppy Days, a popular cartoon show. In addition to her work in television, Collins has also written for Kids WB, where she met children's author James Proimos, who encouraged her to try writing children's books.
Collins' work in children's literature has been highly successful. She made her mark with the New York Times bestselling five-book series for middle-grade readers, The Underland Chronicles. The series has received numerous accolades in the United States and abroad. Collins continued to explore the effects of war and violence on those coming of age in her award-winning Hunger Games trilogy. She currently lives in Connecticut with her family.
