Suzette Mayr

Suzette Mayr is a Canadian novelist whose works span literary fiction, often exploring themes of identity, queerness, and institutional critique. She is the author of five novels, including her most recent, "Dr. Edith Vane and the Hares of Crawley Hall." Her critically acclaimed novel "Monoceros" won the ReLit Award and the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize, while also being longlisted for the 2011 Giller Prize and named among The Globe and Mail’s 100 Best Books of 2011. Her debut, "Moon Honey," was shortlisted for both the Writers Guild of Alberta Best First Book and Best Novel awards, and her second novel, "The Widows," earned a Commonwealth Prize nomination for Best Book in the Canadian-Caribbean region.

Mayr’s writing blends dark humor with incisive social commentary, often delving into the complexities of human relationships and systemic power structures. Beyond her literary achievements, she has contributed to the writing community as past president of the Writers' Guild of Alberta and as a creative writing professor at the University of Calgary, where she also served as the 2002-2003 Markin-Flanagan Writer-in-Residence.
