Svetlana Chmakova

Svetlana Chmakova is a highly accomplished comic creator, best known for her original English-language manga series "Dramacon." She was born in Russia in 1979 and discovered her love for comics at a young age when she came across ElfQuest at a Moscow book stand. After emigrating to Canada at the age of sixteen, Chmakova pursued her passion for art and animation by graduating from the Sheridan College Classical Animation program in 2002.

Chmakova's professional career as a comic creator began when she started publishing her manga on the Internet. Her works were discovered by CosmoGirl! magazine, which led to the publication of her two-page comic "The Adventures of CG." She also created the webcomic "Chasing Rainbows" for Girlamatic. In addition to her original works, Chmakova has also worked on various animation projects, how-to-draw books, and toy designs.

Chmakova is an internationally published author, with more than 10 published books and her work translated into over 13 languages. Some of her notable works include the romantic comedy "Dramacon," the urban fantasy series "Nightschool: The Weirn Books," and the manga adaptation of James Patterson's "Witch & Wizard." Her most recent work is the middle-grade comedy graphic novel "Awkward," which was honored as one of the Top 10 Graphic Novels of 2015 by School Library Journal. Chmakova is currently published by Yen Press and divides her time between Toronto, Canada and California. In her free time, she enjoys reading, taking the subway, and observing interesting people.
