T.B. Smith is a retired police lieutenant turned author, drawing from his extensive law enforcement career to craft compelling crime fiction. After serving twenty-seven years with the San Diego Police Department and San Diego Unified School District Police, he transitioned to writing following an on-duty injury that led to his retirement in 2003. His firsthand experience in policing informs his authentic portrayals of crime and justice in his works.
During his law enforcement career, Smith specialized in training and education, serving as a teaching specialist for a department of 1,800 officers. He lectured at the University of Southern California’s Delinquency Control Institute and frequently spoke to community groups as a Community Relations Officer. A graduate of San Diego State University with a focus on English Literature and creative writing, Smith combines his academic background with practical expertise to create nuanced narratives. He resides in Ashland, Oregon, where he enjoys attending the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
