T Cooper is the author of four novels, including the bestselling "The Beaufort Diaries" and "Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry Blondes," as well as the Young Adult series "Changers." His editorial work includes the anthology "A Fictional History of the United States With Huge Chunks Missing," and he has published nonfiction with "Real Man Adventures." Cooper's writing spans multiple genres, from literary fiction to graphic novels, and his work has appeared in prominent publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Believer. His short story "Swimming" was named one of "100 Distinguished Stories" in The Best American Short Stories 2008.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Cooper attended Middlebury College and later earned an MFA from Columbia University. Before settling in New York City in 1996, he taught high school in New Orleans. His career has been marked by prestigious residencies at The MacDowell Colony, Ledig House International, and The Millay Colony, where he was The New York Times Foundation Fellow. Cooper has also ventured into filmmaking, adapting his graphic novel "The Beaufort Diaries" into an animated short that premiered at festivals including Tribeca and South By Southwest.
Beyond writing, Cooper co-founded the Empathy Project, WeAreChangers.org, and has been a visiting faculty member at Middlebury College. His interests include pit bull advocacy and vintage airplanes. He divides his time between New York and the South with his family.
