T.S. Eliot

Thomas Stearns Eliot, commonly known as T.S. Eliot, was a prominent poet, dramatist, and literary critic. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1888 and went on to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948 for his pioneering contribution to modern poetry. Eliot's poetry, known for its complexity and depth, includes renowned works such as "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," "The Waste Land," "The Hollow Men," "Ash Wednesday," and "Four Quartets." In addition to his poetry, Eliot also wrote plays, including "Murder in the Cathedral" and "The Cocktail Party," as well as the essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent."\n \n Eliot moved to the United Kingdom in 1914 at the age of 25 and became a British subject in 1927 when he was 39. His decision to become a British citizen was influenced by his marriage to his first wife, Vivienne Haigh-Wood, who was British, and his conversion to Anglicanism. Eliot's life and work were deeply marked by his experiences in both America and Britain, and his writing reflects the cultural and intellectual influences of both countries. Despite his American roots, Eliot is often associated with the British literary tradition, and his burial in Westminster Abbey is a testament to his significant contribution to English literature.
