Taeeun Yoo

Taeeun Yoo is a New York-based author and illustrator known for her evocative children's books. Her debut picture book, "The Little Red Fish" (Dial Books, 2007), earned the Society of Illustrators' 2007 Founders Award. She has also illustrated notable works such as "The Umbrella Queen" by Shirin Yim Bridges and "Only a Witch Can Fly" by Alison McGhee. Additionally, Yoo contributed to the reissue of Madeleine L'Engle's celebrated series, "The Time Quintet" and "The Austin Chronicles."

Born in Korea and raised in Seoul, Yoo grew up surrounded by traditional artistry, which deeply influences her work. She studied Korean brush painting at Hong Ik University before pursuing illustration at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Her early exposure to etching under the guidance of Bruce Waldman shaped her distinctive style, blending delicate linework with rich storytelling. Her illustrations have appeared in publications such as "Cricket", "Ladybug", and "The New York Times".

Yoo continues to create from her Brooklyn studio, drawing inspiration from everyday moments—whether observing street musicians or sketching urban landscapes. Her body of work reflects a seamless fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary storytelling, captivating young readers worldwide.
