Tamar Myers is a successful author, known for her mystery novels which include the Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries, Den of Antiquity Mysteries, and Belgian Congo Mysteries. She was born in the Congo, where her parents served as missionaries to a headhunter tribe that used human skulls for drinking cups. Myers grew up in this unique and sometimes dangerous environment, where she learned the local trade language and earned the nickname "Ugly Eyes" due to her piercing blue eyes. She had many unusual experiences during her childhood, such as attending a boarding school that was two days away by truck and wading through crocodile-infested waters to reach it.
Myers' family had to flee the Congo in 1960 due to a period of retribution against Whites, but they returned a year later. However, they lived in the midst of civil wars for several years, and in 1964, they moved to the United States permanently. Myers was just 16 years old at the time and experienced severe culture shock as she adjusted to life in America. She had to learn how to use a telephone, cross a street at a stoplight, and use a vending machine. Despite these challenges, she was lucky to meet her future husband, Jeffrey, on her first day in an American high school.
Myers, who is of Mennonite background, now lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband and several pets. She enjoys gardening, bonsai, travel, painting, and reading. She is also a Master Gardener and loves Thai and Indian food, as well as antique jewelry. Myers plans to visit Machu Pichu in the near future. Her series include the Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery and Den of Antiquity Mystery.
