Tanya Huff

Tanya Huff is a successful and prolific Canadian author, well-known for her work in the fantasy and science fiction genres. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1957, but has since moved around, spending much of her childhood in Kingston, Ontario. Huff has a degree in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, and her early career included time in the Canadian Naval Reserve and working at Bakka, North America's oldest surviving science fiction bookstore. It was during her time at Bakka that Huff began to write in earnest, producing seven books and nine short stories while working full-time.

Huff's writing career has now spanned several decades, and she has numerous series and standalone works to her name. These include the Blood series, Smoke series, Keeper's Chronicles, Valor Confederation, and several smaller series. Her Blood series, which features detective Vicki Nelson, was adapted for television under the title Blood Ties. In addition to her fiction, Huff has also written for comic books and has had her stories adapted for audio.

Huff is currently married to Fiona Patton and lives in the country, where she enjoys writing full-time, as well as Xena, Hercules, and email. She has a love for the works of Charles de Lint and is not fond of telephones, electric blankets, or bathroom renovations. Huff is known for her resilience and ability to find the positive in any situation, once stating that she always expects catastrophe but is usually pleasantly surprised.
