Terri Reid is a successful American author, known for her work in the paranormal-themed mystery genre. She is the writer of the Mary O'Reilly series, and her stories have captivated readers around the world. Reid's interest in all things paranormal began at a young age, and she has been telling ghost stories since she was a toddler. Her mother recalls how Terri would sit in her highchair, looking past her and into the dark back porch, saying "Look. Man," much to her mother's horror and Terri's amusement.
Reid was born in Honolulu, but she now resides in Northwest Illinois in a century-old farmhouse, not unlike the setting of her Mary O'Reilly series. She is married and has seven children and many grandchildren. Before becoming a full-time author, Reid worked in marketing, public relations, and as a freelance journalist. Her background in these fields has no doubt contributed to her success as an independent author.
Reid's book "Loose Ends," the first in the Mary O'Reilly series, was a major success. By the end of 2012, it was ranked as the number one bestseller in Amazon's Ghost Stories section in the Books/Literature & Fiction/Genre Fiction/Horror/Ghosts category and number two in the same area in the Kindle eBooks section. She has since written eight other books in the series, and her works have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese. Reid's books are also available in print versions through CreateSpace and Amazon. She is currently working on an audiobook for "Loose Ends."
Reid's success as an independent author has been recognized in several books about the self-publishing industry, including "Let's Get Digital" by David Gaughran and "Interviews with Indie Authors: Top Tips from Successful Self-Published Authors" by Claire and Tim Ridgway. She has also been honored to have some of her works included in A. J. Abbiati’s book “The NORTAV Method for Writers – The Secrets to Constructing Prose Like the Pros” and has guest blogged for Joe Konrath.
In addition to her writing, Reid is an animal lover and shares her home with several pets, including Riley, a Bernese Mountain Dog-Golden Retriever mix; Hans, a German Shepard mix; and McDuff, a Siamese cat. She is also surrounded by several dozen chickens, although they reside in the barn. Reid's love for her home and community is evident in her writing, as she sets many of her stories in Northwest Illinois, where she has lived for many years.
