Terry Bisson

Terry Ballantine Bisson was an American science fiction and fantasy author celebrated for his acclaimed short stories. His most renowned work, "Bears Discover Fire" (1990), earned both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, while "They're Made Out of Meat" (1991) became widely adapted for video. Bisson also wrote novels, screenplays, comics, and nonfiction, demonstrating versatility across genres.

Bisson's career spanned multiple creative disciplines, from his early work as an auto mechanic to co-writing "Car Talk" with the radio hosts Click and Clack. He edited the "No Frills" book series in the 1980s and later completed "Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman" for the Walter M. Miller estate. A biographer of Mumia Abu-Jamal, Bisson also edited the "Outspoken Author" series for PM Books. His writing often blended sharp wit with speculative themes, reflecting his deep engagement with science fiction and social commentary.

In his later years, Bisson resided in Oakland, California, where he hosted the monthly author reading series SFinSF. An avid motorcyclist, he rode a KLR650 and remained an active figure in the literary community until his passing. His contributions to speculative fiction and his distinctive voice continue to resonate with readers and writers alike.
