Elisabetta Dami, who writes under the pseudonym Thea Stilton, is an Italian author born in 1972 in New Mouse City, Mouse Island. She is the daughter of Pedro Dami, the founder of Dami Editore publishing house, and grew up surrounded by books. Dami started her literary career as a proofreader at her father's publishing house and began writing children's stories at the age of 19, inspired by her strong interest in children and her experience volunteering with sick children.
Dami is best known for creating the Geronimo Stilton series, featuring the character Geronimo the mouseling, which became a commercial and cultural success in Italy and internationally. The popularity of the series enabled her to fulfill her lifelong dream of helping abandoned, orphaned, and sick children. In 1999, Dami collaborated with Piemme Publishing house to produce the collection of books in her series. Since then, she has sold over 100 million copies in 40 languages in over 150 countries.
Under the pseudonym Thea Stilton, Dami writes the Thea Stilton series, which features the Thea Sisters as the lead characters. The Thea Sisters are a group of six mouse sisters who are also former students of Thea Stilton. Dami's love for adventure and travel is reflected in her writing, as she draws inspiration from her travels to exotic places such as Zambia, Easter Island, Nepal, and Mt. Kilimanjaro. She has also participated in two New York City marathons and a 75-mile marathon in the Sahara.
In addition to writing, Dami is a special correspondent for The Rodent's Gazette, Mouse Island's most famous newspaper, which is edited by her famous brother, Geronimo Stilton.
