Tiffany Tsao

Tiffany Tsao is a highly regarded American-born Australian author and literary translator. She is well-known for her work in science fiction, young adult, mystery, fantasy, fiction, urban fantasy, and speculative fiction genres. Tsao has gained significant recognition for her work on the Oddfits book series, as well as her widely famous book, The Majesties, which was originally published in Australia under the title Under Your Wings.

In addition to her work as an author, Tsao is also an accomplished literary translator. She has gained international acclaim for her translations of Indonesian stories into English, including Norman Erikson Pasaribu's poetry collection, Sergius Seeks Bacchus, for which she won the English PEN Translates and English PEN Presents awards. Tsao's other notable translations include Paper Boats by Dee Lestari and The Birdwoman's Palate by Laksmi Pamuntjak.

Tsao received her Ph.D. in English from UC-Berkeley in 2009 and now resides in Sydney, Australia with her spouse and two children. She is the author of the novel The Majesties, as well as the Oddfits fantasy trilogy, which includes The Oddfits and The More Known World. Tsao has translated five books from Indonesian into English, including Norman Erikson Pasaribu’s Happy Stories, Mostly, which was the winner of the 2022 Republic of Consciousness Prize and longlisted for the International Booker Prize. Her translation of Pasaribu’s poetry collection Sergius Seeks Bacchus was awarded a PEN Translates grant and shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Translation Prize.
