Tim Dorsey is an accomplished American novelist, best known for his unique and humorous crime fiction stories. Born in Indiana in 1961, Dorsey moved to Florida soon after his birth and spent the majority of his life there. Growing up in the small town of Riviera Beach, located about an hour north of Miami, provided Dorsey with a rich background that he would later draw upon in his writing.
Before becoming a full-time author, Dorsey pursued a successful career in journalism. He attended Auburn University, where he served as editor of the student newspaper, The Plainsman. After graduating in 1983, Dorsey worked as a police and courts reporter for The Alabama Journal in Montgomery. He then joined The Tampa Tribune in 1987 as a general assignment reporter, where he also held positions as a political reporter in the Tallahassee bureau, a copy desk editor, the night metro editor, and a reporter and editor from 1987 to 1999. It was during his time at The Tampa Tribune that Dorsey began to develop his writing style and hone his skills as a storyteller.
Dorsey's work is frequently compared to that of Carl Hiaasen, another notable Florida author. However, Dorsey has carved out his own niche in the crime fiction genre with his distinctive humor and intricate plotlines. His novels feature the eccentric character Serge A. Storms, a anti-hero who embarks on various misadventures across Florida. Through his writing, Dorsey has established himself as a master of satire and a keen observer of human nature. His books offer a unique blend of humor, crime, and social commentary that has captivated readers for over two decades.
