Tim Gallagher

Tim Gallagher is an award-winning author, wildlife photographer, and former editor-in-chief of "Living Bird," the flagship publication of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Best known for his rediscovery of the ivory-billed woodpecker—a species long believed extinct—he documented the experience in his acclaimed book "The Grail Bird." His explorations have also taken him to remote regions, including Greenland and Iceland, to study seabirds and falcons, as well as to Mexico's Sierra Madre Occidental in search of the elusive Imperial Woodpecker, chronicled in his 2013 book "Imperial Dreams."

Gallagher's writing spans genres, blending natural history, adventure, and conservation. His lifelong passion for falconry inspired "Falcon Fever," which traces the legacy of Emperor Frederick II, a renowned 13th-century falconer. Gallagher's works often reflect his deep connection to wilderness and avian species, underscored by his firsthand fieldwork and vivid storytelling. His other notable books include "Parts Unknown" and "Wild Bird Photography," showcasing his expertise in ornithology and photography.

In 2018, Gallagher published "Born to Fish," profiling world-class angler Greg Myerson. His career continues to bridge literary achievement with environmental advocacy, cementing his reputation as a compelling voice in nature writing and wildlife exploration.
