Tim O'Mara

Tim O'Mara is an American author best known for his Raymond Donne series of mysteries. The books feature a former police officer who becomes a school teacher in the same neighborhood where he once served as a police officer. Sacrifice Fly, the first book in the series, was released in 2012 and was nominated for a Barry Award.

O'Mara has been teaching math and special education in the New York City public schools since 1987, with 12 of those years spent in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where the Raymond Donne series is set. In addition to the Donne series, O'Mara has also written short stories and novellas. His short story "The Tip" can be found in the anthology "Unloaded: Crime Writers Writing Without Guns" and his novella "Smoked" is available in "Triple Shot: 3 Authors, 3 Novellas."

O'Mara's other novels in the Raymond Donne series include "Crooked Numbers," "Dead Red," "Nasty Cutter," and "The Hook," the latter of which is set to be released in 2020. He has also written standalone high-school-based crime drama "So Close to Me" and is the editor of the crime anthology "Down to the River" which was released in April 2019. O'Mara taught special education for 30 years in the public middle schools of New York City, and currently teaches adult writing workshops and continues to live in Manhattan.
