Timothy Schaffert

Timothy Schaffert is the author of six novels, including "The Swan Gondola," "The Coffins of Little Hope," "Devils in the Sugar Shop," "The Singing and Dancing Daughters of God," and "The Phantom Limbs of the Rollow Sisters." His most recent work, "The Perfume Thief," was published in 2021. Schaffert's writing spans multiple genres, blending historical fiction, literary drama, and dark humor. His novels have garnered critical acclaim, with "The Singing and Dancing Daughters of God" selected for the Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers program and named the 2007 Omaha Reads one-book-one-city selection. "Devils in the Sugar Shop" was recognized as a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice and a Book Sense pick.

Schaffert's works often explore themes of family dynamics, memory, and the surreal intersections of everyday life. His novel "The Swan Gondola" was featured as an Oprah.com Book of the Week and praised by publications such as Good Housekeeping, People, and Library Journal. In addition to his fiction, Schaffert has edited two books for the University of Nebraska Press, including "You Will Never See Any God" by Ervin Krause and "More in Time: A Tribute to Ted Kooser." He serves as a contributing editor for Fairy Tale Review and directs the (Downtown) Omaha Lit Fest.
