Dan Perkins, also known by his pen name Tom Tomorrow, is an accomplished American cartoonist who specializes in political commentary through his comic strip, This Modern World. Perkins was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1961 and began his career in cartooning as a teenager. His work has since been featured in over 90 newspapers across North America, as well as in numerous prominent publications such as The New York Times and The New Yorker.
Throughout his career, Perkins has won numerous awards for his work, including the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism, the Association for Education in Journalism and Education Award, the Society of Professional Journalists James Madison Freedom of Information Award, and the Media Alliance Meritorious Achievement Award. His comic strip, This Modern World, offers a satirical and often humorous take on current events, and has earned him a devoted following among readers who appreciate his sharp wit and insightful commentary.
In addition to his work in print media, Perkins has also made a name for himself in the world of digital media. He has worked on a series of animated web cartoons, and has created cover art for the Pearl Jam album Backspacer. In 2011, Perkins ended a 16-year run at Salon to create and edit a new comics section at Daily Kos. He has also published nine anthologies of his work and authored a book for children, The Very Silly Mayor. Despite his many accolades and accomplishments, Perkins remains a humble and approachable figure in the world of cartooning, and is known for his dedication to his craft and his commitment to social justice and freedom of expression.
