Travis Puryear

Travis Puryear is an author and U.S. Army Reserve veteran whose writing spans nonfiction and children's literature. His memoir, "Friendly Fire: The Betrayal of One Soldier by the Government," recounts his life-altering experience with an experimental anthrax vaccine during military service. He has also authored a series of children's books featuring his golden retriever, Cain, including "Cain Learns About Friends," "Cain Learns About Play," and "Cain Learns About Hunting." His forthcoming work, "Would God Forsake America," is slated for release in 2023.

Puryear's writing reflects his deep Christian faith, commitment to veterans' advocacy, and passion for the outdoors. A former board member of the nonprofit Outdoors For Our Heroes, he dedicates himself to supporting disabled veterans and first responders through outdoor therapeutic activities. His personal struggles with vaccine-related health challenges inform both his advocacy work and his literary focus on resilience and faith.

Holding a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Phoenix, Puryear has pursued diverse careers in sales, construction, and service industries alongside his writing. Despite physical limitations resulting from his military service, he remains actively engaged in hunting, fishing, and outdoor pursuits, which serve as central themes in his children's books. His works consistently emphasize perseverance, spiritual connection, and the healing power of nature.
