Valerio Varesi

Valerio Varesi is an Italian novelist and journalist born in Turin in 1959. Best known for his crime fiction, he created Commissario Soneri, the protagonist of a globally translated detective series that inspired the television show "Nebbie e delitti." His works have earned critical acclaim, including being shortlisted for the 2011 CWA International Dagger award.

In addition to his crime novels, Varesi has explored Italy's contemporary history through ambitious literary works such as "La sentenza," "Il rivoluzionario," and "Lo stato di ebbrezza." A longtime journalist, he has worked for prominent newspapers including La Repubblica and La Stampa, where he served as the Parma correspondent. His writing blends meticulous investigative storytelling with deep social and historical insight.

Currently based in Parma, Varesi continues to contribute to La Repubblica's Bologna edition while expanding his literary repertoire. His dual career as a journalist and novelist has solidified his reputation as a versatile and compelling voice in Italian literature.
