Violette Malan

Violette Malan is a distinguished Canadian fantasy fiction author, known for her diverse writing portfolio that spans various genres, including mystery, crime, and erotica. Born in Canada, Malan is proud of her multicultural heritage, with Spanish and Polish roots. This rich cultural background is often reflected in her writing, adding depth and intrigue to her characters and storylines.

Malan is a co-founder of the "Scene of the Crime Festival on Wolfe Island," an annual event that celebrates Canadian crime fiction. In this festival, she not only organizes and conducts writing workshops but also serves as a judge for the "Wolfe Island Prize" for new fiction. Her dedication to fostering the growth and recognition of Canadian crime fiction is evident in her active role in the festival and her anthology editing work.

In addition to her crime fiction contributions, Malan has also made her mark in the fantasy genre. Her first foray into fantasy fiction was with "Mirror Prince," the inaugural novel of her "Mirror Prince" series, published in 2006. Malan's interest in fantasy fiction began with short stories, and her success in this genre has led to the publication of her work in various anthologies, such as "Crime Spree" and the "Ladies Killing Circle."

Beyond her professional life, Malan is a well-rounded individual with diverse experiences. She has worked as a teacher in various capacities, including creative writing, English as a second language, Spanish, beginner's French, and even choreography for strippers. Her multifaceted background also includes stints as an administrative assistant and a carpenter's helper. One of her most unusual jobs involved translating letters between lovers who spoke only English and Spanish. Malan currently resides in a nineteenth-century limestone farmhouse in southeastern Ontario with her husband, where she continues to write and contribute to the literary world.
