Volker Kutscher

Volker Kutscher is a well-known German author, best recognized for his series of historical fiction novels, the Gereon Rath series. His books were originally published in his native language, but due to their popularity, they have been translated into English and published worldwide. The series offers a fascinating look into the past, as it is set in Berlin, Germany during the Weimar Republic.

Kutscher was born in 1962 and studied German, Philosophy, and History. Before becoming a successful author, he worked as a newspaper editor. His debut novel, Bullenmord, was published in 1995. However, Kutscher gained significant recognition with the release of the first book in the Gereon Rath series, Der nasse Fisch, in 2008. This series, which consists of seven books published between 2008 and 2019, is set in Berlin during the late Weimar Republic and the early years of National Socialism.

In addition to his work as an author, Kutscher is also a journalist. His novels have been well-received, with the Gereon Rath series winning the Berlin Krimi-Fuchs Crime Writers Award in 2011 and selling over one million copies globally. The series has been adapted into a critically acclaimed TV show, further increasing Kutscher's fame. He currently lives in Cologne and works as a full-time author.
