Wally Lamb is an acclaimed American novelist, best known for his works 'She's Come Undone', 'I Know This Much Is True', and 'The Hour I First Believed'. Born in Norwich, Connecticut, in October 1950, Lamb has received numerous awards for his literary contributions. He attended Norwich Free Academy, returning later to teach English in the early 1970s. His teaching career spanned over two decades, during which he also taught at the University of Connecticut as an Associate Professor in the English Department.
Lamb holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Education from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Fine Arts from Vermont College. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Lamb has been a volunteer facilitator for a writing workshop at the York Correctional Institute, a maximum-security prison for women, since 1999. This experience led him to edit two collections of autobiographical essays, 'Couldn't Keep It to Myself: Testimonies from Our Imprisoned Sisters' and 'I'll Fly Away'.
Lamb's first two novels, 'She's Come Undone' and 'I Know This Much Is True', were both New York Times bestsellers and featured selections of Oprah's Book Club. These novels, along with 'The Hour I First Believed', have been translated into eighteen languages. Lamb's work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Connecticut Center for the Book's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Connecticut Bar Association's Distinguished Public Service Award, the Connecticut Governor's Art Award, the Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award, and the 1999 New England Book Award for Fiction.
Growing up in Norwich, Connecticut, provided Lamb with the inspiration for the fictional settings of his novels. As a child, he created his own comic books and developed a knack for writing female characters due to his upbringing among girls. Lamb currently resides in Mansfield, Connecticut, with his wife, Christine Lamb, and their three sons, Jared, Justin, and Teddy.
