Will Hobbs is a well-known author who has written numerous novels for upper elementary, middle school, and young adult readers, as well as two picture book stories. His writing career took off with the publication of his first book, "Changes in Latitudes," in 1988. Since then, Hobbs has written seventeen novels, with seven of them being named Best Books for Young Adults by the American Library Association (ALA).
Two of Hobbs' novels, "Far North" and "Downriver," were included in the ALA's list of the 100 Best Young Adult Books of the Twentieth Century. Additionally, "Ghost Canoe" won the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1998 for Best Young Adult Mystery. Hobbs' books are known for their exciting outdoor adventure themes that appeal to both boys and girls. Through his stories, readers discover wild places, share adventures with people from diverse backgrounds, and explore how to make important choices in their own lives.
Hobbs is a graduate of Stanford University and a former reading and language arts teacher. He has been a full-time writer since 1990 and currently resides in Durango, Colorado, with his wife, Jean. Hobbs' books have won numerous awards, including the California Young Reader Medal, the Western Writers of America Spur Award, the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award, the Colorado Book Award, and nominations to state award lists in over thirty states. Despite his many accolades, Hobbs remains a beloved and respected author in the genre of young adult fiction.
