Willard Price was a renowned author, born on July 28, 1887, in Peterborough, Ontario. When he was just four years old, his family moved to America, where he would spend the rest of his life. Price was born into a family of devout Methodists and developed an early interest in exploration and natural history, which would become the cornerstone of his career.
Price received his MA and Litt.D from Columbia University. He had a special interest in natural history, ethnology, and exploration, which led him to make numerous expeditions for the American Museum of Natural History and the National Geographic Society. These experiences would later provide inspiration for his popular children's adventure series, which features Hal and Roger Hunt.
In addition to his expeditions and writing, Price also edited various magazines on travel and world affairs. He spent six years working in Japan as a foreign correspondent for New York and London newspapers. Price's travels took him to seventy-seven countries before his death in 1983. Throughout his life, he remained dedicated to sharing his love of natural history and adventure with young readers. In his own words, "Judging from the letters I have received from boys and girls around the world, I believe I have helped open to them the worlds of books and natural history."
