William Kelso is a Dutch author, born to British parents, who has made a name for himself in the realm of military and ancient Roman historical fiction. His interest in military history was sparked at a young age by his grandfather, a veteran of the Royal Air Force who shared his experiences serving in North Africa and Italy during World War II. This early exposure to military history would eventually inspire Kelso to create his own stories, which he began doing in earnest after graduation.
For 22 years, Kelso worked in financial publishing and event management in London, all the while honing his craft as a writer in his spare time. His love for ancient Rome and his familiarity with the city of London, which was built on the site of the original Roman city of Londinium, provided the perfect backdrop for his stories. In 2017, Kelso made the decision to pursue writing full-time, and he has since published a number of successful books set in ancient Roman times.
Kelso's two series, Veteran of Rome and Soldier of the Republic, have garnered him a loyal following of readers who appreciate his meticulous research and attention to detail. His books, which include titles such as "The Shield of Rome," "The Fortune of Carthage," and "Devotio: The House of Mus," are known for their richly drawn characters and engaging storylines. Kelso has set a goal for himself to write 100 books over the course of his career, and he is well on his way to achieving that milestone. In addition to his writing, Kelso also helps run a battlefield tours company with his brother, and he is a supporter of the Help for Heroes charity and a tiger in India.
