William Lashner is an accomplished American novelist, best known for his mystery and legal thriller books. He was born in 1956 and is currently residing near Philadelphia with his family. Lashner completed his graduation from the New York University and also studied at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in the University of Iowa. Before embarking on his writing career, he worked as a trial lawyer, serving in the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice. His experience as a trial lawyer has greatly influenced his writing, particularly in his legal suspense series featuring Victor Carl, a down-on-his-luck lawyer based in Philadelphia.
Lashner's writing career began with the publication of his first book, 'Hostile Witness', in 1995. Since then, he has written a number of legal thrillers, making use of his extensive experience in law and justice. His 1997 book, 'Veritas', is particularly noteworthy, with the narrative being given through a gangster's conversation with Carlito. The character of Carlito is described as a flawed individual, with weaknesses including sex, big money, and murder. The book is unique in its detailed and massive description, and its refusal to conform to the typical structure of a modern thriller. It is filled with passion, depth, and details, and it is clear that Lashner poured his heart into its creation.
In addition to his writing, Lashner is also a founding partner of The Liars Club, a networking group consisting of professionals in the publishing industry. The group is also associated with other entertainment aspects and includes personalities such as Jon McGoran, Kelly Simmons, Jonathan Maberry, Dennis Tafoya, Merry Jones, Gregory Frost, Keith DeCandido, Fran Wilde, and Keith Strunk. Lashner's work has been widely published and has received numerous nominations, including two Shamus Awards, a Gumshoe Award, an Edgar Award, and an Editor’s Choice in the New York Times Book Review. As a child, his favorite books were 'The Count of Monte Cristo' and any comic with the Batman on the cover. Under the pseudonym Tyler Knox, he wrote the noir novel, 'Kockroach'. His novels have been published worldwide and have been praised for their intriguing plots and well-developed characters.
