Yuri Herrera is an acclaimed science fiction and horror author from Mexico, best known for his work "Signs Preceding the End of the World" (2015). This novel gained significant popularity, landing a spot on the list of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century by the Guardian and earning the title of the Best Translated Book Award in 2016.
Born in Actopan, Mexico, in 1970, Herrera pursued his undergraduate studies in Politics in Mexico, followed by Creative Writing in El Paso. He later obtained his PhD in literature at Berkeley. His first novel to be published in English, "Signs Preceding the End of the World," received high critical praise in 2015 and made it to various Best-of-Year lists, including The Guardian's Best Fiction and NBC News's Ten Great Latino Books. In 2016, this remarkable work was awarded the Best Translated Book Award.
In addition to "Signs Preceding the End of the World," Herrera has published other notable novels, such as "The Transmigration of Bodies" (2016) and "Kingdom Cons" (2017). These works also received considerable acclaim, with "The Transmigration of Bodies" being shortlisted for the 2018 International Dublin Literary Award and the Oxford Weidenfeld Prize. Herrera currently teaches at the University of Tulane, located in New Orleans.
