Yuval Noah Harari is a prominent figure in the field of history, currently holding a position as a professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was born in Haifa, Israel in 1976, to a secular Jewish family with both Eastern European and Lebanese roots. Harari's academic career is distinguished by his wide-ranging interests in World History, medieval history, and military history.
Harari's academic accomplishments are numerous and varied. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in 2002, and has since won the Polonsky Prize for Creativity and Originality twice, in 2009 and 2012. In 2011, he won the Society for Military History’s Moncado Award for outstanding articles in military history. Harari also teaches a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) titled "A Brief History of Humankind," which has reached a wide audience of learners around the world.
Harari is perhaps best known for his non-fiction books, which have been translated into 65 languages and have sold 45 million copies worldwide. His works include "Renaissance Military Memoirs," "Sapiens," and "Homo Deus." His writing explores macro-historical questions, such as the relationship between history and biology, the essential differences between Homo sapiens and other animals, and the question of justice in history. His most recent works, "Sapiens: A Graphic History" and "Unstoppable Us," are innovative adaptations of his earlier works into graphic novel and children's book formats, respectively. These works demonstrate Harari's commitment to engaging with diverse audiences and exploring the biggest questions of our time.
