Yvonne Battle Felton is an accomplished American author, born in Germantown, Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey. She spent twenty years in Maryland before moving to the United Kingdom. Felton is well-known for her fiction writing, particularly her debut novel "Remembered," which has been longlisted for several prestigious awards, including the Women's Prize for Fiction (2019) and the Not the Booker (2019). The novel was also shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize in 2020. Felton's writing has been published in various literary journals and anthologies.
Felton's writing often explores themes of motherhood, secrets, ghosts, identity, and relationships. She is passionate about writing about underrepresented characters in history, on the page, and on the screen. Felton's writing spans various genres, including fantasy and nonfiction for children, historical fiction, short stories, and creative nonfiction for adults. She has won several awards for her writing, including the Northern Writers Award in fiction (2017), and was commended for children's writing in the Faber Andlyn BAME (FAB) Prize (2017).
Felton has three titles in Penguin Random House's Ladybird Tales of Superheroes (September 2019) and three titles in Penguin Random House's forthcoming title, Ladybird Tales of Crowns and Thrones. She is also a dedicated educator and is an Associate Teaching Professor and the Academic Director of Creative Writing at Cambridge University Institute of Continuing Education. Felton enjoys hosting literary events, podcasts, talks, and workshops, and is a British Library Eccles Centre Fellow. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University and is a Lecturer in Creative Writing and Creative Industries at Sheffield Hallam University. Felton's writing is a form of advocacy, and she hopes to inspire and empower other writers through her teaching and literary events.
