C.L. Moore

Catherine Lucille Moore, known by her pen name C.L. Moore, was an American author who made significant contributions to the genres of fantasy and science fiction. She was one of the early pioneers in these fields and paved the way for other female writers in speculative fiction. Moore's writing career was marked by numerous awards and accolades, including the Fritz Leiber Award in 1978 and the Gandalf Grand Master Award in 1981.

Moore was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1911 and began her writing career in the 1930s. She was one of the first women to write in the genre of science fiction and fantasy, and her work opened doors for many other female writers in these fields. Moore's writing was characterized by her ability to create vivid and imaginative worlds, and her stories often featured strong female protagonists.

In 1936, Moore met Henry Kuttner, another science fiction writer, when he wrote her a fan letter. They married in 1940, and after their marriage, almost all of their stories were written in collaboration under various pseudonyms, most commonly Lewis Padgett. Moore often employed the pseudonym Lawrence O'Donnell for works that involved little or no collaboration.

Moore's contributions to the genres of fantasy and science fiction were recognized with several posthumous awards, including the Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award in 2004 and the Retro Hugo Award in 2019. These awards highlight the lasting impact that Moore's writing has had on the fields of speculative fiction and her continued influence on the genre today.
