C.S. Forester

C.S. Forester was the pen name of Cecil Louis Troughton Smith, a British novelist who was born in 1899 and passed away in 1966. Forester is best known for his naval adventure novels and stories, which have earned him a significant amount of acclaim during his lifetime. He wrote around thirty-five novels, one of his most notable works being the Hornblower series, which consists of eleven books and is set during the Napoleonic era.

Forester's writing often focused on adventure and military campaigns, and his works have been celebrated for their ability to transport readers to different times and places. In addition to the Hornblower series, Forester is also known for his novel The African Queen, which was adapted into a film by director John Huston in 1951. Forester's writing has had a lasting impact on the literary world, and his novels continue to be enjoyed by readers today.

During World War II, Forester lived in Washington DC, where he met an intelligence officer named Roald Dahl. Forester encouraged Dahl to write about his experiences in the Royal Air Force, which ultimately led to the publication of Dahl's first book, "Over to You: Ten Stories of Flyers and Flying". Forester's influence on Dahl's writing is just one example of the way in which he has inspired and influenced other writers throughout his career.
