C.S. Friedman

C.S. Friedman is a highly regarded American author, best known for her work in the genres of speculative fiction and fantasy. She has written under various names, including Celia S. Friedman and Celia Friedman. Friedman's writing career took off in 1986 with the publication of her first novel, "In Conquest Born," by DAW Books. Prior to this, she had been working as a theatrical costume designer and teaching at the university level. However, her passion for writing and her success in publishing led her to quit her job and pursue a full-time career as an author in 1996.

Friedman has written numerous novels since then, including the highly acclaimed Coldfire Trilogy, consisting of "Black Sun Rising," "When True Night Falls," and "Crown of Shadows." She has also written the groundbreaking science fiction novel "This Alien Shore," which was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Her most recent novel, "This Virtual Night," was included in Newsweek's list of "25 Must-Read Books to Escape the Chaos of 2020." Friedman's work has been celebrated for its originality, depth, and imaginative storytelling.

In addition to her novels, Friedman has also published a collection of short stories called "The Dreaming Kind." She is known for her love of cats, and her two feline companions often keep her company while she writes. Friedman's hobbies include LARPing, playing with molten glass, and participating in the Society for Creative Anachronism.
