C.S. Lewis

Clive Staples Lewis, commonly known as C.S. Lewis, was a prominent Irish author who is best known for his work in fantasy and science fiction, particularly his Chronicles of Narnia series. Born in Belfast in 1898, Lewis was a bright and imaginative young boy who developed a love for storytelling at an early age. Following the death of his dog, Jacksie, when he was four years old, Lewis insisted on being called "Jack" by his family and close friends, a nickname that would stay with him for the rest of his life.

Lewis was not only an accomplished author but also a respected academic, serving as a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954. That same year, he was elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. His works have reached a vast audience, with his most notable accomplishments including Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, and The Screwtape Letters, as well as the beloved Chronicles of Narnia series. The Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been adapted into three major motion pictures.

In addition to his writing, Lewis was also a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, and the two served together on the faculty at Oxford. Lewis died on November 22, 1963, the same day as John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley, a date that has since been referred to as "the day the music died." Despite his passing, Lewis's work continues to captivate audiences and inspire new readers to this day.
