Cadwell Turnbull is a science fiction author whose work has received critical acclaim and numerous awards. His debut novel, "The Lesson," has been highly praised and was the recipient of the 2020 Neukom Institute Literary Award in the debut category. The novel, which is set in the U.S. Virgin Islands after an alien colonization, has also been optioned by AMC for a television series in collaboration with The Mission Entertainment.
Turnbull's writing has appeared in various publications, including The Verge, Lightspeed, Nightmare, and Asimov’s Science Fiction. His short story "Loneliness is in Your Blood," which was published in Nightmare, was selected for The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2018. Additionally, his Asimov’s novelette "Other Worlds and This One" was selected as a notable story for the anthology. His short story "Jump," which was published in Asimov’s Science Fiction, was selected for the Year’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2019.
Turnbull received his MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Linguistics at North Carolina State University. He also attended Clarion West 2016. His writing often explores themes of science fiction, and his work has been well-received by critics and readers alike. In addition to "The Lesson," Turnbull is also the author of "No Gods, No Monsters," which was published in 2021 and has been listed as a Best Books of 2021 by The New York Times, NPR, The New York Public Library, Audible, Tor.com, Book Riot, Library Journal, and Kirkus!
