However, with the help of her grandmother, who was an English teacher, she overcame her difficulties and developed a love for reading and writing.

O’Leary’s love for reading began when she was young, and she would memorize books before she could actually read them. Once her grandmother taught her how to read, she never stopped. She would re-write alternate endings for her Trixie Belden books, turning them into happily-ever-afters with Trixie’s platonic friend Jim.
