Caleb Carr

Caleb Carr is an acclaimed American author, known for his works in historical fiction, mystery novels, and science fiction. He has penned two novels featuring Laszlo Kreizler and John Schuyler Moore, and has also written screenplays and stageplays, including the prequel to The Exorcist. In addition to his fiction works, Carr has authored several non-fiction books.

Carr was born in Manhattan, New York and had a keen interest in military history from a young age. This interest was fostered during his time at St Luke’s School and Friends Seminary for his primary and secondary education. He further pursued this interest at Kenyon College in Ohio, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Military and Diplomatic History. Carr’s personal experiences have greatly influenced his writing, as he often explores themes of violence by individuals who were once victims of child abuse. This is likely due to the emotional and physical abuse he suffered at the hands of his abusive father. Despite the turmoil at home, Carr formed strong bonds with his siblings, which provided him with a sense of stability.

In addition to his work as a novelist, Carr is also a military historian and contributing editor of MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History. He has written extensively on military and political affairs and has taught military history at Bard College. Carr has authored ten books, including the historical thriller The Alienist, which became an international best-seller and prize-winner. His non-fiction work, The Lessons of Terror, focuses on terrorism and has been a controversial yet standard volume in the literature of the subject. Carr has also appeared before the House Joint Subcommittee on National Security and has been a featured speaker at a closed-door Defense Department conference on the War on Terrorism. He has also made regular appearances on television networks during the American invasion of Iraq. Carr’s work has been translated into over two dozen languages, cementing his status as a prominent and influential author.
